Paul understood then that he was contending for the Colossians not
against men (although men were being used by Satan to attack this
church); but rather the source itself was Satan himself. Paul was battling
for them in prayer, in writing this letter, and if he could have, he would
have went personally to rebuke the false teachers that were being used by
Satan to lead this church astray.
**Paul understands that churches in and around Colossae were in a
battle just as every other church and our church today is against the wiles of the devil (Satan). His heart was burdened for them to remain faithful and true to our Lord Jesus Christ and he gives them here the desires that he hopes they will be equipped with in order to persevere: encouragement, unity, and a pursuit of the full under standing of Christ! We too aim to be equipped with these tools to help us as a church and as individuals fight off the attacks of Satan by the power of the Holy Spirit!
